PG&E Electrician Fresno


Department Overview

The Substation Maintenance and Construction Team is an integral part of our energy delivery organization. They are responsible for safely and reliably maintaining and constructing our high voltage substations throughout the PG&E service territory of northern and central California.

Position Summary

This position is an IBEW classification assigned to perform installation, field testing, and maintenance of protective relay equipment, relay carriers, supervisory equipment, station apparatus, instruments, remote and local control devices and associated wiring. Candidate must be proficient in understanding and deciphering electrical drawing / schematics. Background of apprenticeship and experience must be such as to qualify an employee to perform these duties with skill and efficiency.
Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

• Must qualify or be currently qualified on the Physical Test Battery (PTB) AND on the Apprentice Electric Technician Test (ETT) Assessment in order to be considered.
• Must hold and maintain a valid California Driver's License.
• Completion of electrical apprenticeship – verification of journey status required.

Job Responsibilities

Physical Demands

• Lift, carry, and install various tools, parts and equipment weighing up to 100 pounds on mountainous terrain, dams, canals, stairways, and ladders.
• Maneuver frequently on stairs and ladders, over rock, gravel, and concrete, metal grating, scaffolding, and wood; which may include narrow and uneven surfaces; possibility of ice, oil, and/or water on surfaces.
• Work on ladders, and other elevated structures with the use of personal protection equipment.
• Operate company vehicle. Pack and move from ground, trucks or platforms, equipment, power / hand tools, and other materials.


Work Environment

• Work near energized and rotating equipment. Exposed to loud noises and vibrations.
• Work and drive in all weather conditions. May travel in: off road conditions, and travel long distances.
• Use various safety equipment such as eye, ear, foot, hand protection, and fall protection equipment.
• Potential exposure to: chemicals, fuels, solvents, oils, acids, paints, and some substances identified in Proposition 65.
• Learn and follow safety and technical instructions and material. Understand and follow all safety rules, regulations and procedures.


Qualifications

Minimum:

• Must qualify or be currently qualified on the Physical Test Battery (PTB) AND on the Apprentice Electric Technician Test (ETT) Assessment in order to be considered.

• Completion of electrical apprenticeship – verification of journey status required.

Desired:

• 2 years experience working in substation.
• Possess PC skills and knowledge of accompanying software.
• Experience with the entire Microsoft Office suite tools - Word, Excel, PowerPoint, SharePoint, Visio, Access and Project.
• Candidate must be proficient in understanding and deciphering electrical drawing / schematics.
• Excellent oral and written communication skills, as well as ability to present and explain technical information that establishes rapport, persuades others and gains understanding.
• Ability to lead meetings (in person or phone-conference) and facilitate large group discussions where critical decisions must be made or conflicts must be resolved.
• Comprehend various types of equipment labels and safety signs.
• Recognize audible and visual alarms.
• Effectively communicate and interact with coworkers to complete work tasks.
