Job will close on May 8, 2008. BNSF is committed to a safe and drug free work place. Unless you are a currently carded journeyperson within this craft, or can provide proof of time credit to be carded as a journeyperson, you will start at the entry level apprentice rate consistent with the applicable collective bargaining agreement. Journeyman Carman rate: $23.04/hour. Employees receive annual benefit packages averaging $22,000. Duties: Inspects all safety appliances including hand holds, sill steps, grab iron, brake platforms, running boards, etc. Inspects wheels to insure that rims treads, plate, hub axle, and bearing are in good repair. Maintain, replace and/or repair air brake pipes, valves, gaskets, air hoses and other equipment as required. Inspects outlet gates on hopper cars and air dumps for defects and ensures they are properly secured. Operates electrical and gas welding equipment to join a variety of metals and alloys; operates acetylene torches for cutting and/or shaping metal parts such as aluminum, cast iron, steel, bronze, etc. Operates specialized off-highway motor vehicles including forklift trucks, mobile cranes, trackmobiles, and ship tractors. Qualifications: Welding skills, both SMAW & TIG, gas torch cutting skills, metal fabrication, installation, and trim skills, finish carpentry and cabinetmaking woodworking skills, carpet, tile, and wall covering skills preferred. Must work well within high performing teams. Commercial Driver's Class B License is preferred. Knowledge of AAR and FRA rules is preferred

Applicants passing overall evaluation will be placed on a ranked and rated eligibility list (highest scorer down) for possible call-up when apprentices are to be taken into the program. To qualify for an Oral Interview and Placement Test, an applicant with prior electrical experience must complete an Application Form, have a minimum of four thousand (4,000) hours of substantiated electrical construction work experience (see 3 below), and meet the following basic requirements: 1 - Applicants must provide Photo Identification, such as a driver's license, D.M.V. 2 - Must be a High School graduate with a diploma or the eauivalent, at time of application. Proof of diploma or it is equivalent, must be presented in ENGLISH* when filing application. In lieu of a high school diploma, or its equivalent, show proof of a two-year Associate Degree or Higher.
Substantiated Electrical Construction work. experience consists of working for a Cl0 Electrical Contractor and working on and performing installations of 110 volts and/or higher 4- Applicants must have a valid California Driver's License at time of Indenture 5 - Applicants who are selected for indenture will be scheduled for a placement test to establish On-The-Job Credit and the appropriate period for related instruction within the Apprenticeship Program. 6 - Applicants who are selected for indenture shall take a required internet-based, SFJATC approved Algebra course before attending mandatory related instructions All "4,000 hour prior experience" applicant documentation shall be reviewed by the SFJATC Committee for approval. 7 - Must attend classes as required by the San Francisco Joint Apprenticeship and Training Committee 8 - Must abide by standards adopted by the San Francisco Joint Apprenticeship and Training Committee 9 - Those who are selected for indenture will be subject to comprehensive drug testing before job placement * Non-English Diplomas and lor transcripts must be translated and notarized with the embossed notary seal.
