Elevator Constructor Apprenticeship Opportunities

The Northern California Elevator Industry Joint Apprenticeship and Training Committee announces apprenticeship opportunities for the trade of Elevator Constructor. Applicants shall be a high school graduate or provide proof of equivalent educational attainment such as completion of the GED test. All applicants shall pass an examination designed to test the applicant’s reading and math skills and aptitude for employment in the elevator industry. Upon selection, applicants must pas a valid drug test and consent to a post offer, pre-hire medical exam.

BUILDING INSPECTOR I

BUILDING INSPECTOR I
Monthly Salary Range $4,718 - $5,201

THE POSITION
The Contra Costa County Building Inspection Department currently has one (1) vacant, full-time, permanent Building Inspector I position. This is an excellent opportunity to enter County service and work in a responsible and challenging area. Building Inspector I is the first working level class in the field building inspection series. Positions in this class are located in the Property Conservation Division, where building and zoning code enforcement is the primary duty and may work in the Neighborhood Preservation Program in the Property Conservation Division. Incumbents of this position inspect building/structures being constructed, altered, or repaired to determine conformance with building codes, Title 24 and 25 requirements, approved plans, specifications, zoning laws and ordinances; prepare reports of deficiencies regarding structural stability and other related code items, and perform other related work as required.

This position will report to the Principal Building Inspector or the Chief, Property Conservation. Field training and direction is provided by either a Building Inspector II or a Senior Building Inspector. Building Inspectors work a 9-hour day with alternating Fridays off.

PROMOTIONAL OPPORTUNITIES
Incumbents in the Building Inspector I classification have the opportunity to promote by flexible staffing rather than examination to the classification of Building Inspector II ($5,644 - $6,222/month).

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
License Required: Possession of a valid driver’s license.

Education: Possession of a high school diploma, G.E.D. equivalency or a high school proficiency certificate.

Experience: Either 1) Three (3) years of full-time (or the equivalent of full-time) experience as a journey level carpenter, electrician, plumber, HVAC/mechanical worker; licensed contractor; or as a Building Plan Checker II with Contra Costa County or 2) One (1) year as a building/grading inspector.

THE POSITION
The Contra Costa County Public Works Department is seeking experienced individuals to fill one Public Works Maintenance Supervisor position. This is an excellent opportunity for qualified maintenance personnel to assume the challenge and responsibility of a supervisory position. Under general direction of the Public Works Field Operations Manager, the Public Works Maintenance Supervisor has responsibility for a geographic or functional area within the Public Works Maintenance Division. The Public Works Maintenance Supervisor will supervise a crew that may include Laborers, Carpenters, Crew Leaders, Equipment Operators, Traffic Sign Coordinators, and other related classifications as designated. The crew may be broken down up into small groups doing minor maintenance work or it may operate as a single unit performing major repair work.

The employment list established from this examination will remain in effect for six (6) months.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
License Requirement: Possession of a Valid California Driver’s License.

JOB DESCRIPTION: Perform journey level mechanical work on gasoline and diesel powered vehicles, heavy equipment and other mechanical related equipment and components.

PRIMARY JOB DUTIES:
· Troubleshoot, diagnose, repair and maintain a variety of diesel engines, such as Cummins and CAT, and gas engines in small trucks and cars.
· Troubleshoot, diagnose, repair and maintain drive train components, electrical systems, hydraulic systems, hydraulic and air brakes, suspension systems and a variety of clutches on trucks and related equipment.
· Troubleshoot, diagnose, repair and maintain hydraulic systems, undercarriages, tracks, sprockets, cutting edges, rollers, cooling systems and all power train components on heavy construction equipment.
· Troubleshoot, diagnose, repair and maintain Caterpillar electronics; use a computerized scan program.
· Troubleshoot and test WABCO ABS brake systems.
· Perform scheduled preventative maintenance.
· Modify stock equipment to meet County needs as directed.
· Coordinate repairs and maintenance with other workers.
· Provide technical assistance, direction and advice on complex or unusual projects.
· Document maintenance, repairs and problems on work orders. May prepare repair work orders. Use a Windows based computer program for tracking all work performed and retrieving information about work to be performed.

· At least four years of full-time mechanical work experience repairing heavy-duty trucks and/or construction equipment that demonstrates the ability to perform the primary duties of the job

WORK SCHEDULE: Depending upon availability these positions may be 4/10 or 5/8 full-time, or regular part-time 7 days on 7 days off up to 10 hours per day. Regular part-time positions may work 70 to 140 hours per month. Regular part-time employees are scheduled to work as needed to supplement full-time schedules. Work hours will vary and can be any shift and anytime from 4:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m., with overtime as needed.

PRIMARY JOB FUNCTIONS: Transfer solid waste in trailers and empty trailers from transfer stations throughout King County to the Cedar Hills Landfill in Maple Valley, driving on a variety of highways and roads and weather conditions. This successful employee must:
· Safely perform vehicle turns, lane changes, back into designated areas and other traffic maneuvers. Hook and unhook hydraulic hoses, properly brake in a variety of situations and weather conditions, safely install tire chains.
· Load and transport solid waste and trailers, equipment, gravel, water, fuel and other materials to work areas throughout King County.
· Perform visual safety inspection of vehicle and document discrepancies.
· Perform preventative maintenance and limited repair of assigned vehicles.
· Refuel and maintain vehicle in a clean and operational condition.
· Document trip activities and complete required trip reports.

QUALIFICATIONS: Five years of relevant work experience driving tractor/trailer or similar combinations such as: Class 8 tractor/trailer combinations with three or four axles towing a unit with two or three axles with a gross vehicle weight to a maximum of 17,000 pounds per axle. Work also requires the operation of belly dump trailer, 12 to 14 yard truck with 12 to 14 yard pony trailer, 6,000 to 7,000 gallon water tanker and 4,000 gallon fuel truck or 3,000 gallon water truck.

NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: At the time of appointment, the candidate must posses a valid Washington State driver’s license with a Class “A” CDL; air brake endorsement; and some positions may require a hazardous materials endorsement. Candidates must also submit a current 5-year driving record abstract from the Department of Licensing. Applicants will be required to complete a panel interview and operational skill test.
