Construction Skill Trainers

The Youth Employment Partnership, Inc. (YEP) is a non-profit training and employment program for youth who face barriers to employment. We have provided these services to Oakland residents for 30 years. Our in-house Construction Department operates one employment program called YouthBuild. YouthBuild provides comprehensive construction skills, employment and leadership development skills training to high-risk young adults ages 18 – 24 and contributes to development of low-income housing in Oakland.

MANAGEMENT STRUCTURE:
The Construction Skills Trainer will be responsible for the training and supervision of trainees on-site, and will oversee construction activities at an individual building site. The Construction Skills Trainer will report to the Director of Construction.

SKILLS REQUIRED:
- Minimum of two to three years experience in construction project planning and management.
- Minimum of two to three years construction supervision experience.
- Working knowledge of building codes and construction regulations.
- Ability to work as a team member.
- Knowledge of employment barriers faced by high-risk youth.
- Ability to work in a high-pressure service environment with a diverse staff and client population.
- Knowledge of employment training strategies for high-risk youth.
- Good communication skills including public speaking ability.
- Good record-keeping & documentation skills.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Partial project budget maintenance and analysis
- Development and maintenance of inventory control systems
- Management and supervision of construction trainees on site
- Assist with the organization and coordination of all counseling, educational, vocational and leadership development activities
- Facilitation of participant/graduate transition into employment and educational opportunities
- Represent agency/program in the community at large
- Other responsibilities as they develop through program growth and funding changes
- Other duties assigned by the Director of Construction

MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EMPLOYMENT HISTORY:
We prefer an AA Degree and at least 5 years of related work experience.

SALARY:
$24 hr plus medical & dental benefits for employee.
