• High school graduation or its equivalent; and
• Five years of responsible field inspection experience on commercial/industrial projects including civil, structural, electrical, and mechanical disciplines, with three years at the journey level;
• Must be willing to work overtime and shift work, and to work in permitted confined spaces, out of the service area, and in adverse weather conditions as required;
• Must possess a valid California driver's license and a satisfactory driving record.

THE POSITION
East Bay Municipal Utility District (EBMUD) invites qualified persons to apply for a temporary-construction (TC) Senior Construction Inspector position in the Construction Division. Under general supervision, the Senior Construction Inspector performs inspections of contract construction work related to water treatment and distribution facilities. Some typical duties will include:
• inspecting and approving contract construction work at water treatment facilities, pipelines, water tanks and other related water projects, at sites that may contain potentially hazardous materials requiring appropriate related health and safety training;
• reviewing contract plans and specifications for constructability; noting errors, omissions, and potential problem areas;
• ensuring compliance of construction methods, quality of materials, workmanship, related codes, noted standards, and safety requirements by the contractor;
• ensuring overall project quality and contract compliance on major projects; training and directing the work of District and consultant construction inspectors as required;
• performing specialized inspections including, but not limited to, pipeline installations, mechanical systems, medium voltage and general electrical systems, process controls, structural steel, welding, special coatings, and complex structural concrete;
• coordinating construction-related system outages with the Wastewater and Water Operations, Treatment and Distribution Divisions;
• conferring with the contractors’ field representatives regarding noted non-compliant work or materials and ensuring that approved corrective measures are completed;
• preparing complete inspection reports and maintaining a daily diary; and
• maintaining and preparing computerized as-built drawings, claim documentation, and periodic reports and estimates; monitoring and maintaining construction project files, submittals and construction schedules.

REQUIREMENTS

Additional desirable qualifications include:
• thorough working knowledge of one or more of the following construction disciplines: electrical, mechanical, civil/structural, large diameter pipeline installations, or instrumentation/control systems;
• knowledge of and experience in using Microsoft Word, Excel, and Microsoft Project scheduling software;
• experience in water facility or industrial plant construction inspection;
• knowledge of claims documentation and computerized project as-built preparation; and
• excellent communication skills, and the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with contractors, District personnel, and others, where relations may be difficult.
