Heavy Duty Mechanic - Journeyman
Norcal Waste Systems, Inc. and its subsidiaries provide solid waste management services throughout California, including collection, transfer, disposal, landfill management, recycling, and other waste services.
The following position is currently available at Golden Gate Disposal & Recycling Company in San Francisco, California.
Heavy Duty Mechanic - Journeyman
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Maintains and repairs hydraulic systems to include diagnosis of problems and malfunctions, locating and repairing leaks, tightening fittings, removal and repair/replacement of damaged hoses, fittings, pumps and cylinders and other associated components.
Repair of body and chassis, including use of welding gas cutting devices, grinders and similar tools and equipment to repair and fabricate components. Remove and repair and/or replace body panels, doors, mirrors and fuel/air/hydraulic tanks. Maintains and repairs brake systems to include pneumatics. Inspects and adjusts brakes; removes and replaces brake pads and drums; removes and repairs/replaces associated components as required; locates and repairs air leaks; removes and repairs/replaces hoses, fittings, pumps gauges, and other associated components of the pneumatic system. Maintains and repairs electrical systems.
Diagnoses electrical malfunctions; removes and repairs, replaces damaged or malfunctioning components to include alternators, wiring, switches, gauges and bulbs.
Maintains and repairs mechanical systems to include engine, transmissions, rear-ends, and other drive train components.
Duties include adjusting/tuning functions, removal and repair replacement of components such as belts, hoses, pumps and starters, and the infrequent removal and overhaul of engines,transmissions, drive train components, etc.
Performs basic maintenance and servicing of tools and equipment. Maintains clean and safe work area. Attends and participates successfully in training sessions/meetings on mechanics, lifting, equipment operation, safe driving, and other work-related topics. Assumes responsibility for safe and efficient use of vehicles and equipment.
QUALIFICATIONS: Three to five years experience as a Journeyman Heavy Duty Mechanic. Experience in the solid waste removal and recycling industries is a plus. Class B driver's license (with air brake endorsement). Must have the ability to read, write, and speak English well.
