Elevator Mechanic - UC Berkeley

Hours: 7:00 a.m. - 3:30 p.m.

Physical Plant – Campus Services has a position for an Elevator Mechanic to engage in projects requiring the highly specialized skills of the elevator craft. Repair and maintain elevators, dumbwaiters, conveyors, and moving stages. Install, replace, maintain and repair electrical motors, wiring controls, alarms, lighting, mechanical and hydraulic mechanisms and devices typical of elevators and other type lifts. Work from drawings, prints, manuals, and verbal instructions. Select materials and devices. Perform complex electrical and hydraulic mechanical troubleshooting. Wire panels, switches, control boards, electronic circuit boards, motors, pumps and other mechanisms. Troubleshoot complex computer control devices and software control operating programs. Provide complex diagnostic and repair services for campus elevator and lift equipment in a timely and efficient manner.
Requirements: Completion of a formal elevator mechanic or electrical apprenticeship program or demonstrated high level elevator mechanic experience. Min 3 years as a journeyman mechanic. Certificate of certification from the Elevator Industry. Excellent communications skills, ability to read prints and work independently a must. Ability to lift 75 lbs., climb ladders, stairs and scaffolding. Must be able to respond to emergencies at all hours and work on call.
Valid CA driver’s license. Employment is contingent upon successful completion of a criminal background check.
