Director of Construction Position Description
Occupational Summary:
Habitat for Humanity South Bay/Long Beach’s general building operations requires an individual to act as Director of Construction to oversee multiple projects.

Habitat for Humanity is unique to other positions in that it blends the use of subcontractors with volunteers in the construction of homes. A successful candidate will also be one who likes to teach and interact with diverse populations.

Due to the intimate setting of our office many duties may overlap. The duties of this position may vary and are not exclusive of the duties shown below:
- Oversee project supervisors

- Select and oversee engineers, architects and subcontractors. Monitor progress and ensure compliance with plans and code

- Capable of managing, coordinating and supervising the construction process from conceptual development through final construction on a timely and economical basis

- Request material and labor donations from vendors on behalf of Habitat for Humanity South

Bay/Long Beach, a non-profit organization

Desired skills and experience:
- 5 years as a construction superintendent in residential construction

- Contractor’s License & reliable vehicle

- A personal commitment to the mission of Habitat for Humanity

- Experience evaluating vacant land for new construction and existing structures for rehabilitation needs, including cost estimating.

- Experience with land and infrastructure development management, including scattered site and multi-unit subdivisions.

- Proven ability to organize and develop an overall construction budget and schedule with major milestones for each home.

- Proven ability to create a detailed construction schedule, identifying tasks, skills, materials, and tools required for effective involvement by volunteers and partner families

- Ability to read, interpret and follow architectural plans and Building Codes

- Understand and use computer programs such as CAD, Microsoft Project, MS Word and Excel

- Verbal and written communication skills to be able to represent Habitat for Humanity South

Bay/Long Beach with clients, tenants, subcontractors, vendors and within the company

- Be able to work with a minimum amount of structure and set goals for oneself and the department

- Be self-motivated with a great attitude; be a team player and expect a job to be a positive aspect of ones life

Compensation Package:

The initial salary will depend upon experience and skills. Other benefits include medical and dental insurance, retirement plan, holiday, vacation and sick leave pay and participation in a flex benefits plan.

Additionally, the company offers support and financial assistance for participation in training and leadership development activities.
