More Sisters Needed to Find Causes of Breast Cancer
The Sister Study needs 22,000 more women to join now
As America marks Breast Cancer Awareness Month this October, researchers still don’t know what causes the disease. Since its national launch in October 2004, The Sister Study has successfully recruited more than 28,000 participants -- women whose sisters were diagnosed with breast cancer. Recruitment is far from over.
The National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences (NIEHS) needs 22,000 more women to join the Sister Study, the nation’s largest research effort to find the causes of breast cancer. NIEHS hopes to enroll a total of 50,000 women whose sisters had breast cancer. The Sister Study is seeking women of all backgrounds, occupations, ages and ethnic groups. Tradeswomen are urgently needed to join this study.
You can join if you: Have a sister who was diagnosed with breast cancer (living or deceased); are 35-74 years old, have never had breast cancer yourself and live in the U.S. or Puerto Rico.
